Ralph Barton (1891 - 1931) was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He lived in New York City, during the 1920s at the height of his career. As an illustrator and a caricaturist, he was in popular demand for magazines such as Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan and Life. He often travelled to Paris. He painted for magazines and publishers. Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975) was from Missouri by 1934, Benton had become one of the most recognized artists in America and was selected to be the first artist featured on the cover of Time magazine.
